RefreshBISD is also another way that CEC empowers change in the lives of disadvantaged families and students within the Birdville school district. RefreshBISD is a one-day back-to-school event that provides not only backpacks and school supplies to families in need, but also helpful resources and a chance to connect with churches within our community.
K.I.D.S Camp/Summer Learning Program is a short-term, targeted academic initiative designed to prevent summer learning loss among elementary school students from low-income households. Research consistently shows that students from economically disadvantaged communities are disproportionately impacted by summer learning gaps, particularly in reading proficiency. Without access to enrichment opportunities and academic support during school breaks, many students experience setbacks that widen existing achievement gaps.
This program provides structured, evidence-based literacy instruction, small-group reading support, and engaging, culturally responsive learning activities to help students maintain and strengthen critical reading skills. Instruction will focus on reading fluency, comprehension, vocabulary development, and analytical thinking, while fostering confidence and a positive relationship with learning.
By prioritizing students with limited access to educational resources, the program aims to reduce literacy disparities, promote equitable academic outcomes, and ensure participants return to school prepared to succeed.
