Summer Learning Program

For families living in CEC Property, the Summer Learning Program is designed to bridge the gap between school and summer, focused on decreasing the learning loss that occurs when students are not in school. Children in grades K – 4th grade can participate in crafts, games and guided and experiential curriculum for 10 weeks in the summer.

In 2020, 20 elementary students participated in a variety of programs including Art, Science, Sports, Music and Reading over the 70 day session. In partnership with AmeriCorps Volunteers, North Richland Hills Library, Summer Santa, churches and individuals the students engaged in onsite sports camps, crafts, fun “Camp in a Box”, Summer Reading Programs and family style meals. We accomplished all this with over 30 volunteers contributing over 500 volunteer hours.

All the students who attended where assessed as on or below grade level when they started which was due to the learning loss as a result of COVID. However, at the end of the summer the assessment revealed all students had improved the reading skill to either grade level up to 2 grade levels.

RefreshBISD

RefreshBISD is also another way that CEC empowers change in the lives of disadvantaged families and students within the Birdville school district. RefreshBISD is a one-day back-to-school event that provides not only backpacks and school supplies to families in need, but also helpful resources and a chance to connect with churches within our community.
