Ms. Lily greeted each volunteer with a hug and heartfelt gratitude. She had 10 days to get the job done before being fined, and this was Day 9. Now living alone and with the need of a walker, she just wasn’t able to keep up with the yardwork herself. “I never thought I would get to a point where I couldn’t keep up with my own yard. I’m so embarrassed, but it’s been this way since I got sick. Boy, I’m glad to see y’all!” she said. The notice from the city stated that she needed to clean up the weeds that have grown high on the side and back of her house, cut overgrown bushes and vines, and break down and tie branches from past storms. The team spread out to conquer everything listed on the notice…and she smiled as she inspected their hard work.
The CEC truly appreciates all that our volunteers do to continuously empower and help our neighbors. Parker University was serving at our Food Pantry, Second Glance (Thrift Shop), and for Senior Yards. Because it was supposed to thunderstorm, the two Senior Yard appointments were almost rescheduled. Thankfully, overcast allowed a dozen students to tackle some serious yard work for Ms. Lily.
Thank you,
Parker University, for your impact on Parker Serves Day!
And thank you, Ms. Lily! It was an honor and a privilege to be able to help
you.
